2017 Sermons
Pastor Kyu Kim reminds us of why Jesus cleared out the temple: to restore it to a house of prayer. Jesus cast out everything that exploited and hindered His people. We are reminded that from the beginning, HOPE church invests in each generation so that they may rise up to love God.
Scripture: Mark 11:15-17, Isaiah 56:7
Pastor Kyu Kim presents the Christmas story and teaches how heaven needed to come to earth. Jesus came into the world to heal brokenness. The joyous announcement was not made to the elite but rather to the overlooked. This is how God chose to reveal Himself. This is God’s character.
Scripture: Luke 2:8-20
Pastor Kyu Kim speaks on living a life of greatness. Jesus taught that to be great one must follow Him, the Jesus who came to serve and to give His life for our sake. How do we live out this life of greatness?
Scripture: Mark 10:35-45
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches how Jesus unveiled himself to show His true form in all its glory. God chose to put on our form that we may be able to relate and connect to Him and connect. In a life walking with Jesus we transform to become more like Him as a response. How amazing is the scandal of grace!
Scripture: Mark 9:1-8
Missionary Michael Brown from YWAM-Kona exhorts us: "Let's never move past the gospel." We are about Jesus and our purpose is glorify Jesus. Let us focus on the gospel and not lose our passion in order to keep walking with Him.
Pastor Kyu Kim asks "Are you good at complaining or are you good at giving thanks?" The cleansing of the lepers demonstrates how our good and gracious God gives blessings, but it is through giving thanks that we can grow our relationship with Him.
Scripture: Luke 17:11-19
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches on the new kingdom message to follow Jesus. People naturally want blessing without the cost of commitment. Christ beckons us to fully surrender, listen, and obey in order to step into all God has for us. "New revelation demands people's response."
Scripture: Mark 8:34-38
Pastor Kyu Kim focuses on Jesus’ question: “Who do you say that I am?" His disciples had preconceived notions of Jesus’ mission on earth and had difficulty trusting and accepting God's way. His glory, blessing, and power is revealed through suffering. Jesus prevailed on the cross and as His followers we trust that His way is best and embrace the sufferings we must face in our own walk.
Scripture: Mark 8:27-33
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches how the Gospel of Mark emphasizes how Jesus walked on the water to come to the disciples. It is a powerful image of how God comes to us in the midst of our storm and beckons us to take action on our faith. We take action not based on our abilities but because God wants us to draw close in the midst of our proverbial storms. "Faith is taking us to where God is and what He does."
Scripture: Mark 6:45-52
Pastor Mimi Kim highlights four revelations based on Hebrews 11:23-27. 1) REFUSE to be defined by others. 2) CHOOSE short-term pain for long-term gain. 3) REGARD God's values and not the world's 4) PERSEVERE and not fear.
Scripture: Hebrews 11:23-27
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches on when Jesus miraculously fed the five thousand. He gives more than enough in both quality and quantity. Pastor Kyu urges us not to lose sight of what it's all for. Rather than focusing on the provision, we are to focus on the God who provided, the God who deeply cares for us.
Scripture: Mark 6:33-44
Pastor Mimi Kim taught on our attitudes toward prayer. Jesus told many parables about prayer and made it clear that we are to pray persistently and come boldly before the throne. Because of Jesus, we can and we ought. Let us PUSH: Pray Until Something Happens.
Scripture: Luke 11:5-10
Pastor Kyu Kim explains how Jesus returns to His hometown and was persecuted and rejected because of the people's unbelief. Faith is powerful, but so is unbelief. Faith is going before God despite our feelings and circumstances. The answer to unbelief is going before Him, drawing near to Him, and knowing Him.
Scripture: Mark 6:1-6
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches how God turns despair into joyous laughter. Oftentimes we think that God delays when we need a miracle most, and when we are in great need of Him. But God's timing is intentional and beneficial. The wait strengthens our faith and enables us to respond to difficult circumstances without doubt.
Scripture: Mark 5:36-43
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches about the woman who received full healing from reaching out and touching Jesus' garment. Her touch stood out from the rest because she believed Jesus was who He claimed. And so Jesus took the opportunity to reveal Himself as one who would stop for the outcast and restore not only her body but her value as well.
Scripture: Mark 5:25-34
Pastor Mimi Kim brings a message of encouragement as she shares the story of Paul. We as Christians should remember that discouragement cannot stop the work of God. Pastor Mimi reminds us of the importance of partnering with supportive friends, focusing on what God is doing rather than the circumstances, and remembering all of God's promises over your life.
Scripture: Acts 18:1-11
Pastor Kyu Kim shows us who Jesus is in the midst of a storm. Though trouble may come our way, God is there and He loves us. In a "design dilemma" God uses storms in our lives to give us a greater glimpse of who He is and how He is for us.
Scripture: Mark 4:35-41
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches on the faith of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28. Her desperate faith to go before Jesus compelled Him, although He was only called to the Israelites, to change His mind and bless her. God is moved by our faith and desperate prayers and He will shift the course of history.
Scripture: Matthew 15:21-28
Pastor Young Kim preaches on what Jesus saw as the greatest faith. It requires intimacy and relationship with God to see Him at work and not just a head knowledge that He's able. "The greatest faith is when we see God moving, even if we don't want to, we say Yes, Lord!"
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1
Pastor Kyu Kim goes through the life examples of Barnabas and how he encouraged others into their calling and identity. We may not be the most qualified to help out, but our presence and the attitude of "I'm here for you and you're doing great" can be the Spirit's encouragement for others.
Scripture: Acts 4:32-37
Pastor Mimi Kim teaches about the maternal qualities of God's love for His children. Mothers often have the ferocious instinct to look out for their children with tenacity and precision.
Scripture: Luke 13:34
Pastor Benjamin Robinson expounds on the Parable of Prodigal Son, and how the nature of Christ draws us to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. "The Father is forgiving, the Father is faithful, and the Father is fervent."
Scripture: Matthew 5:48, Luke 15
Lana Vasquez shares about one of the most difficult times in her life and how God lifted her up by elevating her view of God. "He's using us to raise up a generation that knows Him, amongst a generation that doesn't know Him".
Lana is the founder of Life Impact International
Scripture: Nehemiah 1-6, Isaiah 60
2018 Sermons
Missionary Michael Brown urges us to live out our faith in complete obedience to Christ. We are called to not only know God’s heart but to act upon it. Obedience is either complete or compromised: which will you choose?
Scripture: John 15:12-14
Pastor Mimi Kim considers the lives of Simeon and Anna who eagerly awaited the coming of Jesus, and how we now wait for the blessed hope that is Jesus’ second coming. During this Christmas season, are we waiting proactively with great expectation, just like Simeon and Anna did?
Scripture: Luke 2:21-38
Su Kim walks us through the Hall of Faith and how God grows our faith. Just like a tree that bears fruit, we gain faith by abiding in Christ and acting on our faith. Are we anchored in the God who will never let us down?
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1-13
Pastor Kyu Kim asks: are we hearing the Holy Spirit? The first missionaries were sent from the church Antioch after they sought God’s heart. We are called to be the church of open door: to send out and to welcome in. Am I willing to go?
Scripture: Acts 13:1-3
Pastor Kyu Kim asks: are we praying fervently? Are we surprised when God answers our prayers? Hope is when God breaks into our world and brings it out of despair and impossible situations. Our hope is expressed through our prayers!
Scripture: Acts 12
Pastor Mimi Kim explores four themes from the life of John the Baptist to help us truly prepare for Jesus’ return. In this Christmas season we are reminded to focus on Christ and to keep bearing spiritual fruit. So, let us heed the voice calling in the wilderness and be forerunners of Christ.
Scripture: Matthew 3:1-10
Pastor Kyu Kim teaches about Antioch – the first Gentile church. It was founded by ordinary people – not superstars of the Bible – and became the center for missions in the early church. Again we see how Barnabas encouraged the church and, together with Paul, made many disciples. God will use those He chooses, so we must prepare ourselves!
Scripture: Acts 11:19-26
Pastor Kyu Kim reminds us: Never write anyone off, for God can reach anyone. God always opens our hearts to reach people. God is opening doors for us to expand His kingdom. Pastor Q takes us through the lives of Cornelius and Peter to see how God opened heaven and doors for them.
Scripture: Acts 10:1-48
Pastor Kyu Kim challenges us to build HOPE all around us. Barnabas saw the best in Paul when no one else was willing and encouraged him to go on. Tabitha abounded with kindness and charity and encouraged many widows. Are you a builder of hope?
Scripture: Acts 9:19-43
Pastor Kyu Kim reminds us that God can reach anyone and that we should never write anyone off. On the road to Damascus, Saul encountered God. He then experienced not a sudden conversion but rather a sudden surrender after Ananias obeyed God and went to him. PQ asks us: are we on our Damascus Road? Are we an Ananias to anyone?
Scripture: Acts 9:1-22
Pastor Mimi Kim teaches some lessons from Noah’s four word message: It’s going to rain! God’s vengeance and punishment are coming, but the good news is that God’s people will be spared. Noah’s faith and obedience to God’s word show us the path to righteousness.
Scripture: Genesis 6:5-8
Pastor Kyu Kim dives into the evangelism of Philip, the only named evangelist in the Bible. In contrast, Simon the magician had no repentance and only wanted to look good and increase his own power. God used Philip to influence the entire culture of Samaria. PQ asks us: where is our Samaria?
Scripture: Acts 8:4-25
Pastor Kyu Kim shares the amazing witness of Stephen, who stood firm in God’s word despite being falsely accused and ultimately stoned. Though God did not save Stephen from an unjust death, He used the ensuing persecution to spread the believers far and wide to witness to the world.
Scripture: Acts 6:8-8:4
Pastor Mimi Kim challenges us to not compromise when it comes to honoring God. Non-believers could see God in the lives of Daniel and his friends. Let us therefore stand firm and remember who were are and whose we are.
Scripture: Daniel 1,3,6
Pastor Kyu Kim highlights how the gospel prospered in the early church that honored God, handled issues rightly, and accomodated the ministries of the Spirit. Rather than allowing dissension to fester, the early church elected leaders that pleased both God and man. This is a great example of how we should treat problems as invitations to know, love, and honor God.
Scripture: Acts 6:1-7
Pastor Kyu Kim stresses that Christians must have a different world view. While the world embraces the prosperity gospel, Christians embrace the privilege of suffering for the sake of Christ. The right expectation is critical. Being a Christian is not always easy, but it always leads to glory.
Scripture: Acts 5:17-42
Pastor Kyu Kim studies how the early church feared God and valued purity of the heart. The example of Ananias and Sapphira demonstrated how God values the motives and detests corruption and hypocrisy. And as the church continued to honor God in every way, the gospel spread all the more and multitudes came to believe.
Scripture: Acts 4:36-5:11
Pastor Kyu Kim points out the Trinity in the boldness of Peter in today’s scripture passage. How is it that God used the man who thrice denied Jesus to perform a noteworthy miracle? And how is it that Peter is able to stand before those who killed Jesus and not back down in the face of serious threats?
Scripture: Acts 4:5-31
Pastor Mimi Kim studies the life of Deborah to illustrate how God is always faithful. He hears our cries and delivers us in spite of our disobedience. Unlike the time of the judges, now anyone can draw near to God. When we feel distant from God, it is not God who moved!
Scripture: Judges 4-5
Pastor Kyu Kim wants us to know that the name of Jesus has power. Just as Peter and John healed the lame man with authority, so we also have the same spirit within us. A life in the spirit is a life on missions to share the gospel to the world.
Scripture: Acts 3:1-10
Pastor Kyu Kim explores how the early believers loved one another and had true fellowship. Pastor Q expands on what they constantly devoted themselves to and how they shared sacrificially with each other. What if God’s people really live out His word?
Scripture: Acts 2:42-47
Pastor Kyu Kim encourages us to venture past the shallow waters and to enter the deep waters of God’s Spirit that we may come alive, become fruitful, and flourish. It is only by surrendering in the deep waters that we can truly have God lead us. May there be none of me and all of God!
Scripture: John 7:37-39, Ezekiel 47:1-12
Pastor Mimi Kim stresses how unusual and radical it was for Jesus to spend so much time with the outcasts of the time. Jesus looked upon the Samaritan woman at the well with love rather than condemnation. Through an amazing transformation, she went from avoiding people to seeking them out to testify about Jesus. What is our response to Jesus’ love?
Scripture: John 4:4-42
Pastor Kyu Kim asks us: are we running on empty? Just like running out of gas in our cars, some Christians aren’t being filled by the Spirit. Pastor Kyu teaches the results of a Spirit-filled life and the steps to be filled by the Holy Spirit.
Scripture: Ephesians 5:18-21
Lana Vasquez shares about our God of restoration and testifies how He brought her out of mourning and back into life. From small to great, nothing went missing, nothing was lacking, and nothing was broken. God gives beyond what we ask for and his thoughts are beyond ours.
Lana is the founder of Life Impact International.

Scripture: Romans 8:14
Pastor Joey Wandler teaches the power of God’s love and Jesus’ gaze. By meeting the rich young ruler’s dilemma with love rather than contempt, Jesus gave him the courage to forsake everything else to obey God and receive his heavenly inheritance. As we let Jesus’ love run its course in our lives, fear and sin shall be cast out.
Joey is a pastor of Eagle’s Nest in Redding, California.
Scripture: Mark 10:17-31
Pastor Kyu Kim speaks about the conflict of the flesh with the Spirit living within us as he continues last week’s message. The Spirit conquers the desires of the flesh so that we may be restored to God’s image in order to have communion and fellowship with God.
Pastor Kyu Kim reminds us that God commands us to walk by His Spirit and contrasts the deeds of the flesh with the fruits of the spirit. We are on a journey with the Holy Spirit: let us walk with God and be transformed as we let the Spirit influence and change us.
Pastor Mimi Kim teaches from the book of Job and explores why we as Christians still undergo suffering in our lives. In any suffering we face, we must know that God is good and that His work is for our good. Let us be faithful and remember that everything pales compared to a personal encounter with God.

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

Scripture: 2 Samuel 11; Luke 2:41-52

Faith is believing God is good enough and following His instruction even when these ideals are not present.
